the ruler is made of metal that becomes magnetic. Tried with a magnet, it sticks strongly to the magnet, although it says it's stainless steel, but it's definitely not stainless steel. The workmanship is quite good, there is a spring in the middle that secures the corner quite reliably. The thickness of the metal is about 1.7mm, which is very good.
